Abstract
Extensive research has been conducted on how stimulating the senses can affect purchase behaviour, but what about the influence of social networks? Social network marketing’s prevalence is seen in the way customers give advice to each other and via reviews. The internet serves as the starting point for many store visits, while also being accessible in-store via mobile. Customers already easily send photos to each other of the clothes they’re trying on, for example. In the future, you’re likely to get notified which clothes your friends tried on or purchased in the store you just walked into.

With such social media driven changes taking place on the Web, what does it all mean for consumers’ purchase behaviour, and consequently the shopping process, store concept and the store layout? This presentation will outline a number of possibilities. It will also look into the role of human-computer interaction in creating the optimal shopping experience and how to leverage social media. This presentation will partly be interactive.
