Organisation
The Web and Beyond is a bi-annual daylong conference organised by Chi Nederland — and this year, co-organised by IOP-MMI — for the user experience and interaction design community. It started in 2006 and focused on dynamic interface solutions, technological innovations, user-generated content and social networking, also taking into account the consequences on individuals, business and society.
In 2008, The Web and Beyond explored the theme of mobility. We delved into the layers of motion, connectivity and adaptability evolving on the Web, our networks, surroundings, and personal experiences.
This year we’ll focus on proximity. We’ll take a closer look at developments that are shifting the Web towards targeted, location-based and real-time information, making it even more social and personal. The Web is no longer ‘the’ destination — we are.
About the organisers
Over the last decade, IOP-MMI has grown to become one of the well-recognised names in the world of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) in the Netherlands and abroad. The initials stand for an innovation programme funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs that supports research and development projects in user-system interaction.
Chi Nederland, on the other hand, is the Dutch Association for HCI. It’s the biggest professional organisation for user interface professionals, stakeholders and interested parties in this field.
2010 marks the culmination of the 10-year IOP-MMI program. As both organisations strive for the continued growth and success of the HCI field, Chi Nederland and IOP-MMI have teamed up to mark this event and highlight their complementary relationship by co-organising The Web and Beyond conference for 2010.
